Bachman Turner Overdrive
Part 14 of the 2014 Jemusography A-Z sees a move into the 'B's'. And no better place to start than the Bachman Turner Overdrive. Originally formed in 1971 as 'Brave Belt' by two former members of 'The Guess Who', the band changed their name after Fred Turner picked up a copy of a trucker's magazine called 'Overdrive' at a truckstop in Windsor, Ontario early in 1973.

Originally hailing from Brixton, UK, the band started life under the unlikely name of First Presleyterian Church of Elvis the Divine, changing their name to the Alabama 3 some two years later. Known as 'A3' in the US to avoid contractual rights with the band 'Alabama', here's 'Keep your shades on' from their 2005 album 'Outlaw'

A-Ha
A-ha formed originally in 1982, but it wasn't until US videographer Steve Barron decided to spend $100,000 on an animation to their first single "Take on me" that they found success.
Released for the third time in October 1985 with its video makeover, the song went to the top of the US Billboard and to No.2 in the British top 40 as well as becoming the most-watched video in MTV history.
In the following year, the trio had five back-to-back UK top 40 singles including one Number One - 'The Sun always shines on TV'.
They also released five albums:
- Hunting High and Low (1985)
- Scoundrel Days (1986)
- Stay on these roads (1988)
- East of the sun, West of the moon (1990), and
- Memorial Beach (1993)
They disbanded in late 1993 after 'Memorial Beach' failed to attract many sales and was slated by the press.

ABC
For the second instalment of the 2015 Jemusography A-Z we're staying with the alphabet theme and ABC, formed in Sheffield in 1980 when frontman and singer Martin Fry joined a band called 'Vice Versa' formed a year earlier.
ABC didn't take long to seize the New Romantic crown of the early 1980s, launching their success with three mega-singles - Tears are not enough (1981), Poison Arrow (1982), and The look of love (1982).
The 1980s were the band's heyday with five album releases:
- The Lexicon of Love (1982)
- Beauty Stab (1983)
- How to be a zillionaire (1985)
- Alphabet City (1987), and
- Up (1989)
There were also a couple of 1990's albums and one come-back attempt in 2008
- Abracadabra (1991)
- Skyscraping (1997), and
- Traffic (2008)

Jemusography A-Z #1
A new year and a new series - the Jemusography A-Z - an ambitious project expected to run throughout 2015 with a blog, discog and vid posted most days covering bands and artists from A though to Z.
You can't get any closer to the beginning of the alphabet than 'A', so that's where we're starting.
'A' released four albums between 1997 and 2005:
- How Ace are Buildings (1997)
- A vs Monkey Kong (1999)
- Hi-Fi Serious (2002), and
- Teen Dance Ordnance (2005)
Here you have the band's only top 40 single released in 2005...
